Satan is defeated

Ephesians 6:12

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

As believers, we are in a spiritual warfare. However, the first step in spiritual warfare is to understand that our enemy, Satan has been eternally defeated. Therefore, this spiritual warfare is not about defeating the devil. You cannot defeat the devil. This is why Jesus came and defeated the devil for us. Jesus gave us eternal victory over Satan and all his forces.

Ephesians 6:11
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

This warfare is about maintaining the victory that a believer has obtained through the blood and the finished works of Jesus Christ. The warfare is to stand in the victory that Jesus has given you. Satan is a deceiver and wants to convince you that he is not defeated.

Hebrews 2:14‭-‬15
Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

This verse gives us a good picture of what Jesus has done to the devil. He has defeated him and made him powerless, impotent and ineffective. Satan’s power over humanity has been broken. He has no power over a believer. He has no authority over a believer. Jesus has nullified him and made him of no effect. Therefore Satan is no more a factor in your life.

Colossians 2:15
Then Jesus made a public spectacle of all the powers and principalities of darkness, stripping away from them every weapon and all their spiritual authority and power to accuse us. And by the power of the cross, Jesus led them around as prisoners in a procession of triumph. He was not their prisoner; they were his!

The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ has completely defeated the enemy. The blood of Jesus on the heavenly mercy seat is the evidence of Satan’s eternal defeat. Therefore, we don’t have to defeat the devil. If you are ignorant of these realities, you would try to defeat the one who is already defeated. As long as a believer is ignorant, Satan has him captive. But the moment light comes, darkness flees.

When Satan releases his fiery arrows and wiles against you to steal the victory that Jesus has given you. Take your stand in God’s Word and in the name of Jesus, resist the devil, his demons and all his forces. Jesus didn’t defeat the devil for himself, He defeated him for the benefit of His body, the Church.

The victory of Jesus over Satan is your victory over Satan and over all his forces. Stand firmly in this victory! Stand firmly in your blessings of the new covenant. Stand firmly in your healing. Stand firmly in your prosperity. Stand firmly in the blessings of salvation.

Jesus has completely and eternally defeated Satan. Therefore Satan has no power and authority over me. Satan, his demons and all his forces have been nullified. Jesus has made them ineffective and impotent. Jesus has given me His victory. I am victorious over Satan and all his forces. I don’t have to defeat him. I don’t have to fight him for He is already defeated fair and square. I will no more fight the devil. I will only exercise my authority in Christ over the devil and his forces and keep him in his place – his place is under my feet. I will continue to stand in the victory that Jesus has achieved for me. Hallelujah. I am eternally victorious!
