Renew your mind.

Romans 12:2
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

This is perhaps one of the most important verses for believers all around the world. Once you are born again, you must renew your mind with God’s word. Renewing your mind brings clarity concerning God’s will for your life. You will know exactly what God expects of you. You will know what God’s will is for you. There is nothing more important in life than to discover and fulfill God’s plan for your life.

This is your daily spiritual exercise. Getting saved is a one time event but renewing your mind is a daily process and it continues till Jesus comes.

The word conformed in this verse means to shape, change and fashion yourself (your mind and your character) to another’s pattern.

In this verse, the Apostle Paul tells us not be shaped and fashioned according to the patterns of the world.

Remember, Satan is the god of this world. This world has patterns, values, principles and ideas that are contrary to God’s word and are founded on the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life. Selfishness, hatred, pride and fear is at the root of these worldly patterns. The ultimate result of following these worldly patterns is self destruction. This is why the Holy Spirit, our Helper tells us not to be conformed to the world.

I am sure you have seen a lot of believers who live like the world – they think like the world, they talk like the world and they behave like the world. The above verse reveals to us the reason for this hypocrisy, it’s failure to renew the mind.

Why should I renew my mind?

You are a spirit, you have a soul and you live in a body. Because of Adam’s disobedience, every one of us have inherited demonic nature in our spirits from our births which has tremendously impacted our souls and influenced our bodies.

But something outstanding happened when you received Jesus as your Lord. Eternal life was imparted to your spirit and your spirit was recreated. You got born again and you became a new creation in your spirit. The only part that was impacted in the new birth experience was your spirit. Nothing happened to your soul. Nothing happened to your body. Your soul still carries the impact of the old man – selfishness, pride, hatred and fear. Your body has been trained according to the dictates of the old man – yielding your members to self satisfying pleasures.

This is your state once you are born again, therefore you must develop your spirit (the new man), renew and restore your soul to be fashioned to the new man and train your body to live according to the dictates of the new creation man.

Most believers don’t know this and never take the time to renew their minds and therefore they live worldly lives.

Renewing your mind transforms your life. The word transformed in this verse refers to metamorphosis which means ‘to change into another form.’

Matthew 17:1‭-‬2

Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.

The word transfigured is the same word and it refers to metamorphosis. These verses gives us a good picture of the complete change that takes place – his face shone like the sun and His clothes became as white as light. Renewing your mind brings a change – a complete change in your life – it affects every area of your life and elevates you to the higher life that the Lord has for you. Days of heaven on earth becomes your lifestyle. It’s not a hidden change, rather it’s a change that the world will notice. Some will appreciate it. Some will be envious and jealous of it. As for us, we keep going higher and higher, from one level of glory to glory. Hallelujah. This is our life.

What is renewing your mind?

Well, renewing your mind simply means to change the way you think.

Unless your thinking changes nothing changes.

Understand, that your thinking pattern has been greatly impacted and fashioned by the demonic nature that was in you, your associations, the way you were raised up, the experiences you had in life and your secular education. This is why it needs to change. Unless your thinking changes, you cannot tap into the supernatural life that Jesus has for you. Can you think like a slave and live like a king? No.

The word renew speaks about bringing back to the original state. Remember the garden of Eden.

Renewing your mind means

  • Change the way you think.
  • Exchange your thoughts with the thoughts of God.
  • Go back to the Garden of Eden mentality.
  • Move from a democratic mindset to a kingdom mindset.
  • Move from from a slave mentality to a son mentality.
  • Move from sin consciousness to righteousness consciousness.
  • Move from a earning mindset to a receiving mindset.
  • Developing a Word mindset and Word mentality.
  • Move from a struggling mentality to a rest mentality.
  • Subjecting and conforming your mind to the mind of Christ.
  • Yielding your mind to the spirit man – the recreated spirit.

The inner man begins to govern your thinking and through the renewed mind, the new man controls the body.

How do I renew my mind?

You exchange your thoughts with the thoughts of God, which is the word of God. The Word of God is the mirror which shows you who you actually are in Christ. Your mind doesn’t know who you are – it still thinks you are the old man. Through the mirror of God’s word, you reveal to your mind the death of the old man and the entrance of the new man. Your mind needs to know that the new man (the recreated spirit) is in charge now. The word of God is the water you use daily to transform your thinking and conform it to the new man. Meditation, Confession and Practice is the way you renew your mind.

Consistency is the key.

As you consistently meditate, confess and practice the word, you position yourself for the Holy Spirit to work on your thinking. Your thinking patterns, your mentality and your mindset will change. The influence of the old man will become weaker and the influence of the new man on your mind will become stronger. When you thinking changes, you will begin to see transformation in every area of your life.

A transformed life is a very effective witness of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

New birth causes transformation in your spirit but it’s still an internal matter. But renewing your mind causes external transformation in your life. It brings lasting, noticeable and undeniable changes to your life.

II Corinthians 3:18

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Renewing your mind with God’s word brings on the outside what’s on the inside and takes your from one level of glory to another level of glory.

You can have days of heaven on earth. You can live a glorious life. You can live a life of dominion – dominion over Satan, sin, sickness, poverty and all curse. It’s God’s desire for all of His children. You will not only know what God wants but you will also live accordingly. This is your life of glory!

Renew your mind.

Change your thinking.

Change your life.
