The fear of the Lord prolongs days, But the years of the wicked will be shortened. Proverbs 10:27 NKJV
Every human desires to live a long life. In order to achieve this objective, they make adjustments in their diets, in their sleep and even undertake strenuous daily exercises.
All of these steps are vital for good health. However the verse says, the fear of the Lord prolongs days but the years of the wicked will be shortened.
Let us see the same verse in different versions.
The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord prolongs one's days, but the years of the wicked shall be made short. Proverbs 10:27 AMPC
Living in the worship and awe of God will bring you many years of contented living. So how could the wicked ever expect to have a long, happy life? Proverbs 10:27 TPT

If you respect and obey the Lord, you will live longer. But wicked people will die before they are old. Proverbs 10:27 EASY
Having respect for the Lord leads to a longer life. But the years of evil people are cut short. Proverbs 10:27 NIRV
The first step to a long, full and whole life is the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord doesn’t mean to be afraid or scared of the Lord. The fear of the Lord refers to having reverence and respect for the Lord. As the Amplified puts it, ‘worship, obey, serve, and trust the Lord with awe-filled respect.’ This deep reverence for the Lord will bring you many years of satisfied living.
The latter part of the verse says, but the years of the wicked will be shortened. A wicked person doesn’t have reverence for the Lord. He has no respect for the presence of God and no honour for the word of God. Therefore he lives his life the way he wants it and does whatever he wants. The Scripture says, they profess to know God but in their actions they deny Him. The person who has no fear of God will not have a long life no matter what His diet is and no matter how many hours he walks or does his exercise.
When a person has no honour for God, he won’t hesitate to do things that are contrary to God’s written word. God is nowhere to be found in their thoughts, their speech and behaviour. God is not an important part of their decisions. It is a life against God, a life that is in enmity with the King of the Universe. How can a person live long if he doesn’t have honour for the Giver of Life?
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate. Proverbs 8:13 NKJV
Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones. Proverbs 3:7-8 NKJV
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will be added to you. Proverbs 9:10-11 NKJV
In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, And His children will have a place of refuge. The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, To turn one away from the snares of death. Proverbs 14:26-27 NKJV
The fear of the Lord leads to life, And he who has it will abide in satisfaction; He will not be visited with evil. Proverbs 19:23 NKJV
The root of a long and full life is the fear of the Lord. A genuine fear of the Lord leads to a life of sincere obedience and true worship. You have so much honour and reverence for God that you hate what He hates and you love what He loves. His word becomes your life and walking with Him is your greatest delight.
The fear of the Lord not only affects the quantity but also the quality of your life. The primary ingredient for a long, strong, healthy and prosperous life is the fear of the Lord.
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, II Peter 1:2 NKJV
