In this teaching I want to show you how powerful the Word of God is. Once you see the dominating power of God’s word, you will have greater reverence for it and you will be in a position to trust whatever the Word says.
Now the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry. And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. In response Jesus said to it, “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.” And His disciples heard it. Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”” Mark 11:12-14, 20-21
Jesus spoke to the fig tree and the fig tree dried up from the roots. The words that proceeded out of the mouth of Jesus dominated the fig tree. The words that He released over the fig tree dominated it and made it subject to the words that were spoken over it.
“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.” John 14:10
“For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.” John 12:49
These verses let us know, the words that Jesus spoke wasn’t His, it was the words of the Father. Jesus said, I don’t speak on my authority and I say what I hear my Father say. It was the words of the Father spoken by Jesus that dominated the fig tree. Glory to God!
Let’s look at another instance,
“The hand of the Lord came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones. Then He caused me to pass by them all around, and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and indeed they were very dry. And He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” So I answered, “O Lord God, You know.” Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! Thus says the Lord God to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.” ’ ” So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and suddenly a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to bone.” Ezekiel 37:1-7
When Ezekiel spoke, the bones responded. Notice, it wasn’t the words of Ezekiel meaning it didn’t originate from Him. The Lord said to Ezekiel, Prophesy to these bones and say to them. The Lord gave the words to Ezekiel and as Ezekiel spoke to the bones, those words dominated the bones and there stood a mighty army.
God’s Word created all matter therefore God’s Word dominates all matter
Think about this, why did the fig tree respond to the word of Jesus? Why did the bones respond to the words of Ezekiel? Have you ever thought how Peter walked on water after Jesus said to him, ‘Come’. The Word of God dominated the laws of physics – in this case the law of gravity. There are a lot of examples in the Word, as you study you will see the awesome and fierce dominating power of the Word of God.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” John 1:1-3
“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.” Colossians 1:16
The Lord – The Logos – The Word created all things. Think about it, all things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers – all things were created by the Word. Since all things were by the Word, all things are dominated by the Word. There is not a thing that does not respond to the Word of God. Can you see how powerful the Word of God is?
“who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,” Hebrews 1:3
The Lord upholds, maintains, guides and propels the entire universe by His mighty word of power. The Lord dominates all things by His Word. When He speaks, things conform to what He says. You see the dominating power of God’s Word in the first chapter of the book of Genesis.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.” Genesis 1:1-3
The earth was without form and void, and darkness was on the face of the deep. God released His Word and dominated what He saw. All things came out of the Word therefore all things will conform to the Word. Darkness couldn’t stop the Word. The Word dominated darkness. The Word dominated what was void and without form. The Word cannot be stopped. Not a thing can stop the Word. This is the dominion of God’s Word.
Speak what God has said
God’s Word in your mouth is just as powerful as God’s Word in His mouth. The Word dominates. Therefore you must speak it out. Speak out what is in the written word of God. Speak out what is spoken to you by the Holy Spirit. Speak it to your body. Speak it to your finances. Speak it to your marriage. Speak it to your future. Speak it to the mountains in your life. Speak it to and over every area that concerns you.
No one and nothing can stop the Word from coming to pass. All things will conform to the Word that you speak. All things respond to God’s Word. Therefore speak God’s written and spoken word, you will witness your life becoming glorious as the Word becomes flesh in your life.
You are victorious in Christ.
