Communication in Fellowship
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.
II Corinthians 13:14
The word communion in the above verse comes from the Greek word koinonia and it means fellowship, oneness and partnership. Having fellowship, oneness and partnership with the Holy Spirit, who dwells in you.
Fellowship is incomplete and boring without communication
After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.
Genesis 5:22-24
Enoch walked with God for three hundred years. Have you ever wondered, why the Holy Spirit is in you? Well, for fellowship – to walk with Him. But you can’t have fellowship without communication. Think about people who live together but never talk. It is so boring and the fellowship becomes incomplete. How about Enoch walking with God for three hundred years and never having a conversation with God? Communication makes fellowship alive and fresh.
Therefore, prayer is not a monologue (one side conversation) rather it is a dialogue ( conversation between two or more people). Some believers when they pray or have fellowship with God, they do all the talking and never expect to hear anything from God.
Our God talks! Our God listens!
Yes, our God talks. Wouldn’t it be wise to hear someone who knows everything about everything? In walking with God, you can’t do all the talking. There is a time to talk but there is a time to be still and listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying. He has something to say about your life, your decisions and every area of your life.
Then the Philistines went and made a raid on the Valley of Rephaim. And David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” The Lord said to him, “Go up, for I will deliver them into your hand.” Then the Philistines once again made a raid on the valley. Therefore David inquired again of God, and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; circle around them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees. And it shall be, when you hear a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God has gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”
I Chronicles 14:9-10, 13-15
David inquired of God and the Lord answered Him. Our God talks! Our God listens! He is a living God. He is not like the gods of the nations of the world – who have eyes but can’t see, ears they have but can’t hear and mouths but can’t speak. Our God is a living God. He talks! He listens!
Expect to hear from Him for He is always talking to His sheep.
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
John 10:27
The Lord is always talking to His sheep. He is always talking to you. As your Shepherd, He is always talking to you. Therefore you must expect to hear from Him. You must position yourself to hear from Him. The more rooted and grounded you are in the written word of God, the easier it will be for you to hear and recognize the voice of the Holy Spirit.
Listen, for I will speak of excellent things, And from the opening of my lips will come right things; For my mouth will speak truth; Wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are with righteousness; Nothing crooked or perverse is in them.
Proverbs 8:6-8
Drown yourself in the written word of God, you will never miss His voice. He always speaks in line with His written word. The Word of God is your communication link with the Holy Spirit. There are things the Holy Spirit will never say – wickedness, crooked or perverse things will never proceed out of His mouth. Only excellent things, right things and truth. The stronger you are in the written word of God, the greater and interesting your communication will be with the Holy Spirit.
Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”
Jude 1:14-15
Enoch walked with God for three hundred years. How did he know what was about to come in the end of days. Well he had conversations with God. He allowed God to talk. He listened! The Lord showed Him outstanding things and revealed to Him what is about to take place. As you talk to God and listen to Him, your conversation will be fruitful and productive. He will comfort and encourage you. He will strengthen and guide you. He will show you things to come and will take you to the very summit of opulence and prosperity.
In your walk with God, remember your God talks! Your God hears! Have a wonderful fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Dominion guaranteed!
