You are God’s masterpiece

Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

The day you accepted Jesus as your Lord was the greatest day of your life. New birth is the biggest miracle in your life. The above verse is talking to people who have received salvation by grace through faith.

You are God’s masterpiece. Some translations say God’s workmanship or God’s handiwork. The Greek word for masterpiece is poiēma, from which we get English words – poem and poetry.

The word poiēma literally means “something that has been made” but it’s used in the context of making something creative like a poetry or a work of art.

You are God’s masterpiece.

You are God’s poem.

You are God’s work of art.

Michelangelo, the Italian artist was considered to be one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance. Some of His notable works, which costs tens of millions of dollars, has been carefully preserved to ensure that future generations would be able to view and appreciate his genius. If Michelangelo’s artistic masterpiece had such great, unmatched value, would not God’s masterpieces have even greater value?

You are not Michelangelo’s masterpiece, you are God’s masterpiece.

Did you know,

• A masterpiece takes a very long time to be made. It took Michelangelo four years to paint the frescoed ceiling in the Sistine Chapel and it’s a cornerstone work of High Renaissance art.
• A masterpiece is one of kind – there are no duplicates. A master piece has no equal. It cannot be copied or imitated.
• A masterpiece is very detailed and intricate. It is custom designed and tailor made.
• A masterpiece is precious and extremely valuable to the artist, He is the one creating His masterpiece and it’s a combination of His thought, skill and hard work.
• A masterpiece reveals the intent, passion, skill and beauty of the artist and causes others to be inspired.

You need to see yourself as God sees you. He not only purchased you with His blood but He has made you His masterpiece – His best and most outstanding piece of work. When your Heavenly Father looks at you, He sees beauty and greatness.

“You are my masterpiece, my precious and priceless work of art, full of divine potential. I created you to do things nobody else can do in this entire world. You are my poem, my work of art, my masterpiece.”

When this reality dawns on you, it will destroy insecurity (lack of confidence or certainty in oneself) and low self esteem (looking down on oneself). Insecurity and low self esteem causes people to compare themselves with others and compete with them. They depend too much on the approval, acceptance and attention of others to generate value for themselves. Self-pity and self-criticism are very much seen in people who are insecure and have a low self esteem.

Insecurity and low self esteem arises out of a person’s wrong belief about himself or herself.

Don’t let your past define you.

Don’t let your tough life experiences define you.

Don’t let your broken relationships define you.

Don’t let your wrong behavior define you.

Don’t let your failures and mistakes define you.

Don’t let how people treat you define you.

Don’t let your personality and physical traits define you.

In Christ, the Word of God defines you. Your value is in God’s word. His Word shows you who you actually are. You are in Christ and you are God’s masterpiece. Know who you are in Christ and be established in it. This will affect your behaviour, it will impact your life experiences and relationships and it will transform your life completely. Christ life doesn’t work from the outside in, it works from the inside out. Many times we have allowed the outside (behaviors, experiences, mistakes, relationships) to define who we are on the inside. Beloved, turn it around, your spirit is God’s masterpiece and now work it out and let it impact your life and make you a wonder to your generation.

God is creative and He has created the universe, as we see in the beginning chapters of Genesis. Yet of all His creation, He calls us His masterpiece. A masterpiece is the most outstanding piece of work of a creative artist.

The above verse is not talking about our physical, natural birth rather its talks about the supernatural, the spiritual birth of a believer. Your born again, recreated human spirit is the masterpiece of God.

II Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

The moment you received Jesus, your spirit which had demonic, sin nature was recreated with the life and nature of God by the divine artist, the Holy Spirit. You were a child of the devil and through Jesus, you became a child of God. You are God’s seed. Your spirit has the DNA of God. You are created in righteousness and in true holiness.

You have undisputed value and eternal worth in the eyes of God. Like a beautiful poem, the Lord has put great thought in recreating you in Christ. He has put great thought into the rhyme and rhythm of our lives.

You are unique.

You are valuable.

You are precious.

You have great worth.

You have a purpose.

Not only do you have value but you also have a purpose for you are God’s masterpiece created in Christ to do good works that God planned for you long before.

The Lord has not only created you but He has also prepared the path for you to walk in from the moment you are born again to the day you see Jesus face to face. Your path, your good works are pre-determined by God and it was prepared for you before you were born again.

You may not know what your specific purpose, path or good work is, but that doesn’t negate the reality that God does have a specific path and work for you.

You are God’s Masterpiece, His handiwork, His poem and His work of art. Your spirit is God’s masterpiece. Today, the Holy Spirit in you is working to bring on the outside what’s on the inside.

Philippians 2:13

for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

You may not feel or look like a masterpiece on the outside. Others may convince you that you are surely not a masterpiece. You may not know what you were born to do. Understand, these are spiritual realities. The Holy Spirit is given to you so that what’s real on the inside will become real on the outside and through Him, you will discover the path and the work the Lord has for you.

As you allow the Holy Spirit to work in you, He will work out the masterpiece to such a degree where the world will see it. You will be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ. The world will see the Lord Jesus in you. As His masterpiece, you are to bring glory and honor to your creative artist. The Holy Spirit will reveal to you the plans prepared for you and will give you the desire and the ability to do it. You will live a satisfied and fulfilled life because you are in God’s perfect plan.

II Corinthians 3:18

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Stay fixed on the mirror of God’s word. Keep your eyes on God’s word. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly. As you behold God’s word, the Holy Spirit will transform you into that same image from glory to glory.

You are God’s masterpiece created for a specific purpose!

The world will see you – the real you, the manifestation of God’s masterpiece and you will fulfill God’s specific plan for your life!
